Search for Theft Suspect in Town of Burke

At 4:43 am today, a Dane County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on a person operating a stolen moped at CTH CV and Fieldstone Lane in the town of Burke. They believed the person was also a suspect in several recent thefts.

 

The suspect drove the moped into a wooded area near the airport's fence line and then fled on foot. A short time later, the deputy heard a sound consistent with a gunshot. Responding law enforcement established a perimeter and began searching for the suspect on foot and with a drone provided by Fitchburg Police. Middleton Police also responded with a K9 to assist with the search. The Sheriff’s Office Tactical Response Team was on the scene as well.

At 9:06 am, deputies found the moped operator hiding under a small trailer near the intersection of CTH CV at Wheeler Rd, and she was taken into custody.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking residents and businesses near CTH CV and Fieldstone Lane to check their video/doorbell cameras for any sightings of the suspect. She may have been in the company of one other individual. Anyone with information is asked to call the Dane County tip line at 608-284-6900.
