OWI Crashes

Dane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to two crashes involving intoxicated drivers overnight. One driver was cited and two others were arrested.

At 5:44 pm, a 911 caller reported a vehicle had struck power poles, causing power lines to fall near the intersection of CTH J and Witte Road in the town of Cross Plains. The 68-year-old driver was cited for OWI – 1st offense.

While deputies were still on the scene waiting for Alliant Energy crews to repair the power lines, another vehicle drove through the crash scene. A deputy made contact with the driver, who was intoxicated and had a gun in the vehicle. The 47-year-old man from Middleton was booked in to the Dane County Jail on a tentative charge of OWI with an enhancer of having a firearm.

The second crash occurred just before 11:30 pm on HWY 19 in the town of Medina. A driver lost control and drove off the roadway, hitting several trees. One of his three passengers sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The 29-year-old man from Sun Prairie was arrested for OWI – causing injury and cited for Operating Without a License and Failure to Maintain Control. He is currently being held in the Dane County Jail.
